What's Up With What's Going Down
Jul 06,2006
. . . and back to our regularly scheduled program. Today I'd like to introduce my favorite part of the CDJapan redesign, the "What's New" section.

Here you'll find a brief summary of the best new announcements of the day. We update the "What's New" section every weekday just after we've processed the newly arrived product data. This makes the "What's New" section a daily-updated compact summary of the best newly announced releases on our site.
We've included "What's New" sections on the top left side of all of our main pages (the location is highlighted in the graphic above. Our home page features the best of the best new data, with more specific information added to the appropriate genre pages. I've listed the pages with "What's New" sections below.

CDJapan Home Page
Jpop
Music (Non-Japanese)
Anime
Movies
Hello! Project
Johnny's Jimusho
If you've missed a couple of days, you can click the "Archive" link at the bottom of the "What's New" section. Here, we'll list the last thirty entries to the section by date.

are they connected?
Well I was wondering if the "What's New" list is was connected and automaticly updated together with the other pages (covered in the "Automatic for the People Vol. 2" post). Is an itme still going to be listed somwhere in those pages after in went past the 30 itmes listed in the "What's New" archive?
Like you said the "What's New" section gets update every day and there are probably multiple enteries done each day so an item could quickly dissapear from the archive after a couple of days. Would I still be able to review the upcomming list of products on the pges (covered in the "Automatic for the People Vol. 2" post)?
(btw, it looks like the "Idols" tab is visible on the shttp links now :) )

Hi shuwarai,
The "What's New" list is actually done by hand and handled seperately from the auto-updated pages.
You should still be able to find an item in the "Recently Added" or "Top Future Releases" section of the appropriate genre after it falls off the "What's New" list. Alternatively, you can try the genre specific "What's New" pages since entries should last a bit longer there.
However, I do agree we should have an archive for "What's New" entries. Our system team's a bit backlogged right now, but once they open up I'll see if they can work something up.
