Swine Flu Alert
May 22,2009
Is everyone OK?
Thanks to Ken for posting a comment about the swine flu last week.
Let me use it for this weeks topic.
Japan is going crazy about the swine flu.
Is Japan the only one who is making such a big deal out of this? The news is constantly reporting every new infected case. And they even report the trace of where the infected people has been to recently and where they have been sitting in the airplane and so on. But this is spreading really fast. 2 weeks ago, the first case was confirmed and today there are 291 confirmed cases.
And this week, the virus finally arrived in Tokyo.
Masks are sold out everywhere.
Are there any Mexican customers reading this blog? I wonder how crazy it is in Mexico. Or is this just Japan? Because America said they were optimistic about this virus. Tell me what is happening in other countries.
If WHO raises the alert level to phase 6, the world would be like a movie.

Swine Flu Alert Comments
I'm not so sure this Swine Flu is so deadly...the regular Flu kills more people annually than the Swine Flu has been credited with. I think people's fears are fueling the global panic more than it would be otherwise.
Every time I hear the words "flu" and "cold" I feel a little tickle in my throat! Maybe everyone else does too, which makes them think they are sick and then they begin to panic?

Hi! I¡m from Mexico city, we were here in panic during one week, we used blue masks, that was funny xD ,we are fine now , has not many deaths, the truth is: the people always die of respiratory diseases so it is not necessary to be scared of this, but please take care.I¡m sorry , my English is not very good.
Greetings from Mexico!!

Dou itashimashite, Mana!
Well, in my country there are only 26 confirmed cases about the virus and all my people is under MAX ALERT Level 5, still. Mexico is in our continent (America) and it`s true: the situation is stable now in the neighboring country and there are not more reported severe cases that spreads the disease (well.., it`s that I hear until now).
WHAT HAPPENED IN JAPAN, MANA? I have hear that the contact is massive. First in Kobe and now in Tokyo?
I wonder what happened to my beautiful singers(they still singing during concerts or brings massive events???). It`s a great risk.
TAKE CARE ALL OF YOU, PLEASE.

Hi Vanessa
Thank you for reporting about your country. Yes, I've also heard that there are many people who actually die from the flu every year so there is no need to freak out. But still, I hope you and your family are safe!

Layin' low, here.
I agree with Kariya--I think fear plays a big part in fueling the "epidemic." I don't know anyone personally infected with the "disease," and the local news channels haven't reported any cases in my area (in the country yes, but not in my particular state). Honestly, I expect the entire thing to blow over very soon. With that said, it's important to take necessary precautions with preventing an infectious disease--washing hands, covering coughs and sneezes, good hygiene. You know, the basics.
Take care everyone!!
