Our Bad Sides
Mar 19,2009
Since I've been receiving more comments to post blogs about Japanese culture, I guess I'll keep on giving you Japanese news.
I realized that I always talk about good things in Japan. So I thought I should also introduce bad sides of Japan to be fair.
I don't want to disappoint anybody but it's good to share bad sides too, right?
Well there should be many bad sides but what I am really ashamed of is that we can not speak out for ourselves when we should. I think it definitely comes from our background where we didn't have religious conflicts and didn't have many immigrants from outside so there was no need to speak out for ourselves because everyone mostly got along.
So like if someone needs a hand or there is a fight on the street, people will just stare. Of course there are some people who offers to help out or stops a fight but the majority would just ignore or just peek from the corner of our eyes. The truth is, we all want to help and want to be nice, but somehow it's hard to do that in Japan. I like going abroad because if I look lost, there are many people who offers to explain directions.
Japanese would kindly give you directions if you ask, but keep in mind that you will probably won't get offered if you don't ask in Japan.
I guess when we are in a situation where it's not strange to be nice or polite, we give the best service like at convenience stores. The staff in gasoline stations even bows down when we leave the station. But when we have an option, or when we are back to ourselves and not working professionally, we get really shy.
I hope we could be more friendly outside as we are inside.
So people who are coming to Japan should keep that in mind, but please remember that many people think differently from how we act.
I also want to introduce a spot in Japan for those who are planning to come over.
18m Full-Scale Gundam in Odaiba

Namco Bandai Holdings Inc. announced to construct a full scale 18m gundam in odaiba to celebrate the 30th anniversary of "Mobile Suit Gundam" TV series. The robot will be exhibited at the park for 2 months from the beginning of July.

Image of how tiny people are going to look.

Gundam DVDs
I guess it's going to look like the Statue of Liberty.
Notes:
I apologize for last weeks announcement about the new arrivals of Moi-meme-Moitie. There was a delay, but they will be available in the beginning of next week!

I am the EXACT same way!! I am fine talking to strangers when I am at work.. but when I'm back to my normal self.. it is very hard to talk, I'm so shy!!
It is even more difficult because most people around here, are not like that.. Actually, they are more comfortable around strangers as their true self rather then at work.. The fact that there are alot of rude employees too, adds to this thought..
The thing about fights is universal, I think. There are psychology studies published about how people don't help because they think others will, etc..
Interesting read!! ^w^

Hey Manababy. Regarding the seach engine for 'in stock' items. I mean a search engine the same as you already have for the Goods category. So whatever category you are searching (music, j-pop, anime etc) it would show ALL the items currently in stock at CDJapan. We could then browse through heaps of stuff and place an order knowing it will ship in 1-2 days. Cool. Make sense?

I would like that 18 metre bad-boy Gundam in my backyard after they've finished with it. I wonder how much it would cost to ship EMS to New Zealand? lol

It's great to know that you understand what I am talking about! I'm also shy but many Japanese are shy too so it's pretty easy for me to live here. But I wish I wasn't shy when I go overseas.
Hi Damon>Thanks for the explanation. I got what you said. I made a request to our system team. It may take some time to reflect it though. Thanks for your great idea! I'm sure many people will appreciate it.
And I bet many people would die to have the full-scale gundam. But it would be too much work to assemble it...
Kira>Yes the head will move in all 4 directions, and there will be light gimmicks in 50 places all over its body. Chest, ankle and back will also have a mist-spraying function too!

Given how Gainax are still milking Evangelion for profit, I bet they wish they'd thought of this before Namco.
