Interesting Jobs

Hi. Is everyone keeping warm during this cold season? So many people got the flu in CDJapan and like I said in my previous blog, a lot of staffs are wearing masks. I hope my blog readers are doing good.

Today, I thought I'd introduce some unusual jobs in Japan.

Recently there are ear cleaning services where a guy goes and gets his ears cleaned by a girl wearing a yukata. Japanese love cleaning their ears.

The guy rests his head on the girls lap (we call it "lap pillow") while the girl cleans his ears. I don't know if people overseas like getting their ears cleaned but in Japan, getting their ears cleaned while lap pillow-ed by a girlfriend is a delightful situation.

Another one is I heard a lot of foreigners come to Japan and get a job as a fake pastor. Japanese are mostly atheists but many have weddings at churches. We just like the idea of getting a wedding like Western countries. We want a pastor like the ones we see in the movies. Since most Japanese do not understand wedding vows, the foreigner sometimes exaggerates the whole preach and makes a really big scene with big gestures. Nobody probably notices that their pastor is a fake. But my friend said it was so funny that he got to be a pastor and overdo everything when everyone was so serious.

There is another peculiar service in Japan that I discovered. It's not common because I only know one guy who is doing this. He is a comic book reader. You choose your favorite comic book and he will read the comic book to you with all the sound effects, using different voices for each character. Moreover, he doesn't have a price list. You just give how much you think it costs to you. I thought it should be better to watch a movie, but my friend who went there said the guy memorizes all the lines and just tells the story incredibly good and was definitely worth going.

It's summer in New Zealand at the moment. Beautiful sunny days listening to Malice Mizer and Gackt. Comic reading guy sounds like a great job. Things are very tough in New Zealand economically. Lots of people losing their jobs due to the terrible world economy. But New Zealander's (Kiwi's) have a real 'can-do' attitude and seem to just get on with life no matter how bad things get. Probably because we are so isolated from the rest of the world way down here at the bottom of the globe. Hope all the staff at CDJapan keep well.

Je, je, je. I go through a flu caused by a cold front in my country. Thanks!, Mana. And keep you warm, too. My regards to Toshi - to care too much.

And about the peculiar jobs:

- The first job is very good for boys(I want a lap pillow and a girlfriend, too...) SERVICE EXPRESS PLEASE.
- The second and third jobs are very original. I don`t knew anything about it!

I'm just recovering from a flu so I've been taking care of myself a lot lately, I hope everyone who is going through the same get better too!.

The jobs are so funny, I was already curious when I saw on some dramas and such, scenes like those of a man getting his ears cleaned by his girlfriend/wife while he is being lap pillowed so this explication gives me an answer haha. I rather prefer to clean my ears by myself lol

As for the fake pastors, I didn't know of that one but I've been also curious for the fact of Japanese getting married on churches and everything, what I don't know is if they have more than one kind of wedding or something?... I mean, like a Japanese traditional wedding along with a western one? *confused*

And lastly, I would like to try the comic book reader one haha, it sounds funny!

Michelle>I haven't heard of an ear-cleaning service for girls. But I know there is an opposite of a made cafe. There is a butler cafe for the ladies. But I agree there are much more services for men than women!!
Damon M>Thanks for telling us about NZ.
It's great that New Zealanders can still have a positive attitude during bad economy. Japan is getting worse and worse every year. Many things have changed these years. We can tell it by seeing all the empty taxies lining up. People stopped using taxies and started to use the train to save.
Ken> Take care!! Do you have a fever? If you do, I heard that if you hold 2 cold cans under your armpits, it'll take the fever away!!

Arashi>You take care too!
About the weddings, there are Japanese weddings held at shrines where we dress in a traditional Japanese wedding kimono. But most girls prefer western wedding styles because the dresses are simply more prettier. (Well at least to me) But some people still have it the Japanese style.
Japanese are really free when it comes to religions. Basically most people are Buddhists. But everybody loves Christmas and Christian Weddings too!
It was even unusual to have someone in your class that was actually religious. But I think that's why we don't fight. There are no fights over religious matters.

Oh! really, Mana? Thanks for the advice but I`m better now. The only problem for me it`s a great and annoying sore throat. I guess that's a side effect of fever or flu but it`s bothering me a lot. I can`t talk about anything!!! Accept advice and aids of all kinds.

PLEASE.... *cough*..*cough*

Jobs in Pakistan
I have also a blog. But this blog have very interesting coments.
by mappear@yahoo.com : Feb 11,2009
This is really fascinating!! I haven't heard of any of these jobs before! the ear cleaning services is kind of weird...

Manababy, what you said about religion is interesting. Where I live, most people think it is strange to say that you are "unreligious", even though alot of the "religious" people don't practice what they preach... or even know their religion...@__@

And yes, There are too many religious conflicts in my country and the rest of the world. It is very refreshing to hear that the Japanese don't prejudge others like that....

Well... I think kimono are prettier!! ^w^

Can you give me to the link of where I can see the comments for the interesting Jobs in Pakistan? I can't see where they are.

Keri> Yes, we don't have any religious conflicts. Not a lot of people realize how lucky that is though. But I'm sure we fight over other stuff that your country have no problems with!
About the kimonos, I guess we all want what we don't have.
