Flying Carp Streamer
I know we are very lucky to have so many holidays. And this is called golden week in Japan. There isn't actually a celebration on any of the holidays above except for Children's day.
Actually it's more than boy's day than children's day. March 3rd is girl's day where little girls dress up in kimonos. On Children's day there will be many flying carp streamers called "Koinobori" in Japan. Since carps are thought to be a dragon as it grows, parents wish for their children to grow up to be healthy and strong like a dragon. Families with boys also decorates their houses with armor or samurai dolls during this occasion.

Flying Carp Streamer Photo
Hi! My name is Julia Robinson and I work at the Spurlock Museum at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. As part of the Spurlock Museum¡Çs Education Team, I often offer crafts to the public. To enhance the cultural experience, we distribute "fact sheets" about the craft, which often include illustrations. I discovered your picture of Japanese carp kites athttp://www.cdjapan.co.jp/grapes/-/cdjblog/Customer_Service_Closes_for_Golden_Week
and think it will be perfect for the sheet that discusses carp kites and Children¡Çs Day. May our education staff have permission to use this illustration in conjunction with our carp kite craft? Please email me back at julorobi@illinois.edu with your response. Also, if possible, we would like a higher resolution photo in case a size adjustment is necessary. Thank you!
