New, Little Things
Mar 14,2008
Hello, hello.
Are you guys ready for something huge? Are you chomping at the bit dying for the next awesome new thing from CDJapan? Well that'll be here next week, so in the meantime I'm back, fit as a fiddle, and here to bring you some of the small changes we've made in the past couple of days.
First, we've got new, seperated Blu-ray and HD-DVD pages as well as a completely new SACD page. All three of these pages feature daily updated rankings of our top sellers in the category, with additional links to view next generation format items in a number of genres by release date (HD-DVD will be here next week). You can access the new Blu-ray, HD-DVD, and SACD pages from the CDJapan top page, any of our genre pages, or through the links below:
Blu-ray page
HD-DVD page
SACD page
Next, we're getting a lot of comments on the new
button up on our site. If you see this on a product information page, it just indicates a first press bonus item included outside of the product packaging for the item you're looking at (posters, photobooks, etc). "External Bonuses" are still first press items, so you'll only receive them while the "First Press Available" button appears on the product page--they're just packaged along with your item instead of inside (like say a photocard or sticker). If you see a "First Press Available" bonus and an "External Bonus" on the same item, you'll receive both if you order while the first pressing is available.
Finally, we've made a slight change to the way we do samples. If you find a CD with sample audio available, you can still go to a page on our Japanese site Neowing to listen to them. However, we've redesigned the Neowing page so that English titles will appear along with the Japanese song names, as long as the English names are in our database. We'll further update the site next week to allow you to view the Japanese page for any item on our site, whether it has samples or not.
Well, that's all for now and I'll see you next week. Brace yourself!

Thanks guys!

Curiosity??
Dan! New question:I noticed that some of the online shops in Japan have the same products that CDJAPAN but your store offer First Press and Bonus Extra things that these stores don`t show(for example Hikki`s new CD brings 2 items in CDJ but in the others stores only the CD is available and nothing more). So, I ask: is some sort of privilege that holds your shop or what?
Bonus: Give us a small advancement of this awesome thing that comes next week. JUST A HINT!!

From what I've heard there are two explanations to why other stores don't list bonus details. First, we contract directly with a number of labels, so I think we get bonuses that other stores who order their items through a middleman/distributor don't.
Second, I think a lot of the stores actually do get the bonuses, they just don't list them on their site. Since the first press bonuses don't have unique catalog numbers, it can be difficult to make sure the bonuses are consistently packaged right and/or make sure they go to the right people, so I think a lot of stores don't bother with it. Our CEO made it a goal for our company to make sure we did the first press bonuses as precisely as possible when he started the company.
As for your second question . . . wild horses couldn't drag the details out of me but . . . I will give you one hint. It's not an awesome thing--if things go right it should be several awesome things ;)

I have to admit, it's kind of fun teasing you guys like this. Thanks for the comments guys!

Excellent explanations my friend Dan. Of course, as always.
"SEVERAL AWESOME THINGS?". Oh! no... It can`t be. CDJAPAN we confirms once more time that this is the best of all. I can only say one thing:
< SUUUUUGOOOOOIIIII!!! >

Well, save that until next week, I don't want to get your hopes up too high! I think you guys will really like what's in store though.

WoW! Now I'm getting excited about these "Several Awesome Things" too!! I can hardly wait 'till next week to see what those things are XD
Dan, if you don't mind, I have a little sugestion... I would like VERY VERY much if CDJapan could provide more products of "Nagaoka Sleeves", like the Sleeves for CD+DVD and DVD, the quality of the products are awesome and the price is perfect, I'm happy to know that I can buy these stuff here in CDJapan. Well, that's it for now *Waiting until next week*
Sayonara!! =D

Dan, just a general question about CD singles (not albums), but is it true that the Limited Edition singles w/DVD versions come housed with booklets that are thicker and filled with more images, graphics and beautiful artwork than their regular edition counterparts? Or are they the same? I'm stressing over whether if this is a good trade-off for the bonus remix track off Plastic Tree's new single.
by wohjai : Mar 17,2008
Oh, and how come the first press is sold out for the limited edition of MYV's new album, while the first press is still available for the regular edition? Different stickers?
by wohjai : Mar 17,2008
Jackson> Thanks for the comments and I'm really glad to hear you like the Nagaoka products. We've been very happy with the sales of them, and have been considering adding more items for a while now. The Nagaoka brand items are one of the few things that are directly handled by CDJapan and not through Neowing, so we have a lot more freedom in what we order. I'll definitely pass on the CD+DVD and DVD sleeve recommendation, and if there's any more Nagaoka Brand products you want feel free to ask!

There's no hard and fast rule about the booklets, it really depends on the release. We won't know more until the single comes out, but from what I can tell from the product descriptions for the limited and regular editions of the Plastic Tree single, it looks like they have the same booklet.
Usually, if we state the two versions of different jacket artwork the booklets will be somewhat different, but there's no guarantee on which is better or by how much they differ. I've even seen the regular edition get the better booklet while the limited edition just had a DVD.

As for the first presses, I'm pretty sure they're the same sticker. We get alotments of first press items based on the amount of CDs we order during the first press period. Since the regular and limited editions have different catalog numbers, we get bonuses for both versions (at least in the case of Miyavi).
Now, to make sure everyone who orders the first press gets the first press, we need to keep the bonuses for each item seperate. Say for our first press order we get 1000 limited editions and 100 regular editions, we'll receive 1100 stickers. However, if 1100 people order the limited edition and 30 people order the regular edition, either we give all the stickers to the limited edition people and the people who ordered the regular edition on the first day lose out, or we do what we do now and keep the bonuses seperate per item.
So that's what happened with Miyavi, we've sold out of our first press alotment of limited editions, but not of the regular editions.

F.P.?
Friend Dan!! Help me please.Talking to "First Press" editions: did you tell me what is the one that come in the "Regular Edition" of Dschinghis Khan CD?
by Ken007 : Mar 18,2008
Hi Ken007,
The first press bonus for the regular edition is just a serial-numbered card. I just put it in on the product page.
