"Beat" Takeshi in "Chi to Hone"

"Beat" Takeshi Kitano returns to his "beloved" explosive screen persona as Kim Shunpei, the semi-autobiographical character from Korean-Japanese author Yang Sok Gil's novel.
Director Sai Yoichi waited several years for Kitano to agree to appear in his film due to the award winning actor/director's tight schedule. Here, Kitano-san plays a Korean immigrant living in Japan. His life is a cascade of cruelty, abuse, and shocking, sudden violence. He sexually assaults his estranged wife (Kyoka Suzuki), fails to support his family by gambling away all his money, and abuses workers at his factory. However, when the factory closes, Shupei finds a way to prosper by starting his own loan-sharking business. With his violent temper, he becomes the most feared man in Osaka's Korean ghetto.
"Blood and Bones" has been the recipient of numerous awards, including the Grand Prize, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Supporting Actor prizes at the 59th Mainichi Film Competition, and nominations for Best Director, Actor, and Supporting Actress at the 47th Blue Ribbon Awards.
The film is available as a Limited Collector's Edition, a 2-disc set loaded with bonus features, and a film only Regular Edition. Also available is Taro Iwashiro's score to the film.
