The Necessity of Deep Breathing

Young people, sugarcane cutting, and change of heart under the blue Okinawa sky. A feel-good film "Shinkokyu no Hitsuyo (The Necessity of Deep Breathing)" is available in Limited and Regular edition DVDs with English subtitles. Tetsuo Shinohara, who was responsible for the romantic hit Tengoku no Honya - Koibi (Heaven's Bookstore - The Light of Love), returns with Shosuke Tanihara, Karina, Hiroki Narimiya, and Sayaka Kaneko.

A group of youths come to a remote island of Okinawa to escape from the pasts they want to hide. They have to harvest 70,000 sugarcanes within 35 days; otherwise their employers, a kindly old couple, will face financial ruin. The job is harsh, and some of them are thinking about leaving. One day, the foreman gets an accident, and it is only 10 days left. Are they going to get it done in time?

Shinohara recorded the entire cane-cutting process, from the first awe-struck look at the massive stalks to the last ceremonial cut in a cleared field. He keeps the focus in the field, where the changes of the heart take shape and grow. My Little Lover's Kaze to Sora no kilim includes the theme song. The Limited edition comes with trailers, cast and staff biographies, interviews, behind-the-scenes featurette, photo gallery, and photo cards.
