Nezu no Ban

Check out the DVD release of "Nezu no Ban," the first movie directed by Masahiko Makino. You may have heard of Masahiko Makino before as this is the stage name for veteran actor Masahiko Tsugawa's when he plays the roll of movie director. He chooses this name because he is a relative of Shozo Makino and Masahiro Makino, who are known as great directors who supported the golden era of Japanese movies.

A Rakugo (Japanese traditional storytelling/comedy) star is on his his deathbed, and his final words are "I want to see so%@$"! However, his family mistakes the real "so%@$" for a certain part of the female anatomy!?!? To make matters worse, the Rakugo family first loses the star, only to later lose his wife and a good pupil. After each death, the members of the family do their best to make most suitable funeral for the comedian family by staying awake all night singing, dancing, and talking about their silly memories. Behind their indecent stories and behaviors, the viewer learns to see the strong bonds grown between members of the family.

"Nezu no Ban" features an all-star cast including Kiichi Nakai, Yusuke Nagato, Takashi Sasano, and Yoshino Kimura.
