Nezu no ban records the eventful wake of a master (a teller of traditional tales) by his wife, his pupils and pupils' wives. Songs, memories, tall tales and low tales abund. Even if the cinematography is somewhat indifferent, the acting is superlatively good, with Kiichi Nakai and Junko Fuji stealing the show, and providing much of the funny and tearful moments of the film.
