New Perfect Master Grammar Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) N4 (with English Translation)3A NetworkComprehensiveI think this book is fantastic. Be warned that there really is not much English in this book. The format is basically this: Left side of page - introduces 2-3 grammar points that are similar. Includes a very short English explanation and several example sentences. Right side of page - 10 to 25 practice problems (answers in the back of the book) The thing that is so good about this book is that the example sentences and practice problems are extremely well designed. They are not just random sentences that happen to contain the grammar point, they are carefully crafted to be clear and easy to understand while demonstrating a specific way to use the grammar point. A great example about being clear is in the section about ni vs de. One of the practice problems basically says (my translation, from memory): "We built a window [in] the room. Afterwards the room was brighter." They could have just written the first sentence, but they included the second to remove any trace of ambiguity (are they building the window INTO the room or are they building A window in room that is going to be placed somewhere else (is that possible?)). I absolutely appreciated when they did that, every time. I was familiar with 75% of the grammar going into this book, but I learned something worthwhile on every page. If you have any doubt about your N4 grammar, pick up this book.

Miku de NihongoNoriko Toyoda, Crypton Future Media, Inc.Great and funny!A great gift for all Miku lovers and wishing to get start Japanese. But I really don't like explanation like that: "This song was produced to allow various interpretations". I'm talking about Rimocon song. If you want to know the truth, read Rimokon novel. http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/NEOBK-1806127?s_ssid=e35865b6d9fd8c768

Quick mastery of vocabulary in preparation for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test BASIC1800 for N4 and N5 [English, Chinese, Korean Edition]Sayaka KurashinaRevise your vocabularyAccording to the discription, this book includes all the kanji that you should know to pass n5/4. Well, there's pretty much vocabulary in there and it's all divided by themes, but I feel lack of at least some excercises for remembering new words. So I think it's good only for revising, not remembering new words. Each word is accomponied by translation and furigana.

Quick mastery of vocabulary in preparation for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test STANDARD2400 for N3 [English, Chinese, Korean Edition]Sayaka KurashinaVocab for n3Just as the book for n5/4, this book includes just words, translation and reading, nothing else, so you need to brave yourself for difficult process of remembering new words as no exercises are suggested. It's good for revising, but for learning new words you'll need smth else.

JLPT Japanese Language Proficiency Test Official Exercise Book N5Kokusai Koryuu KikinGood practiceThis book is modeled after the current format of The Japanese Language Proficiency Exam (JLPT). The practice questions will give a taste of what the test will fell like and what the examinee should expect. The CD that comes along with it is important for the listening comprehension. Very affordable so anyone on almost any budget could probably get one. If you are a beginner (at least one year or more of study) of the language thinking about taking the JLPT for the first. Start with this. It won't set you back.

Tanki Master Text for Japanese Language Proficiency Test N5BonjinshaHelpful drills and extra practiceThis was nice practice book to help me prepare for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT). This book comes with an abundance of questions that are in the style of the real JLPT N5 (lowest level; meant for beginners). You get questions from all components: characters, vocabulary, grammar, reading comprehension, listening comprehension. The extra practice I got from this book helped me feel more confident since I study solo. I was able schedule how much of each section to do each day. You even get mock tests so you can practice on the clock. Thumbs up!

Your Name. (Kimi no Na wa.) (Kadokawa Tsubasa Bunko)Makoto Shinkai, ChikoGood for japanese language learningThis version of the novel has furigana in every kanji so it's perfect for everyone learning japanese language. Also, it's very easy to understand the story (I guess they made it easier for children to read this book). The illustrations are beautiful and the quality of the paper is incredible. It's a great story too, and it's very nice to have the book even if you've already watched the movie. I believe there are minor details in this novel book that wasn't shown in the movie.

Minna no Nihongo Elementary Japanese Level1 Main Textbook [Second Edition]3A NetworkStudy hard and you shall... learn?I used this textbook as part of Japanese study at university. (And I bought it through here because I thought that it would end up cheaper than what my uni charged) (it was $10 cheaper at another bookshop than what I ordered it for, postage included) This is a great little textbook - however if you are studying on your own you will need to get the translation book. (You might need it if you are studying through uni anyway) Also there's little people diagrams in there that are really cute too.

Nihongo Kihon Bunpo Jiten: A Dictionary of Basic Japanese GrammarSeiichi Makino, Michio Tsutsui, Japan TimesFor the commited learnerI am fascinated what makes Japanese different from English. The sentence structure, the many conjugations, the use of Kanji to communicate ideas and words instead of strings of roman letters, statements and structures that do not translate well into English, the use and the scope of formality and humility, the literal meanings of statements. Understanding the Japanese language is like understanding the Japanese people and their culture. This dictionary is an incredible resource that has been helping me unravel the mysteries, nuances, and structure of this wonderful, diverse, and challenging language. Using this dictionary meanings putting in the time and the effort. You must read carefully, and rigorously. Perhaps take a pencil and write as you read. There are definitions for different parts of speech and grammatical terms, sections that focus on important characteristics of basic Japanese, entries for important basic grammatical elements and parts of speech, appendixes for references to conjugations, forming compound words, making numbers, and more. This dictionary maybe closing in on 30 years but I think this is still a relevant resource. I fell lucky to have this because it has been very vital for understanding what I and reading, saying, and communicating. As in person who studies Japanese independently I recommend you start by familiarizing yourself with the grammatical terms. Then, start studying the sections labeled Characteristics of Japanese Grammar. Reference the main grammatical entries and appendixes as they are encountered in your studies and practice writing and reading out-loud the sentences you compose using each entry you study.

Kerokero Midori (Issho Ni Asobo)Kashiwabara Teruo / Saku EKero kero!My 2-year-old daughter loves this book! And even though she doesn't really understand Japanese yet, she knows it almost by heart. And hearing her say "mitsuketa pyon!" is the sweetest thing for me. Now I'm considering buying every single one of this series. ^_^
