Ikebukuro West Gate Park Soup no Kai Complete Edition

Starring Tomoya Nagase, this legendary TV series--known by the nickname "I.W.G.P." and based on the novel of the same name by Ira Ishida, as well as marking Kankuro Kudo's debut as a writer for a serial drama--portrays the lives and struggles of contemporary youth in Ikebukuro. In 2003, three years have passed since Makoto Majima (Tomoya Nagase) brought an end to the violent conflict among Ikebukuro's color gangs. Makoto is now being forced to vacate his family's fruit shop, "Majima Fruits," and has taken to selling fruit from a small truck. Though he still serves as Ikebukuro's go-to troubleshooter, his daily life has become quiet, leaving him feeling both bored and acutely aware of his age. One day, a homeless man approaches Makoto and asks him to catch the culprit behind a series of attacks in Nishiguchi Park, where homeless people have been assaulted and left with broken bones. Makoto initially wants nothing to do with the trouble, but soon finds himself drawn into the case and even begins living in a makeshift plastic greenhouse. Bonus footage (20 min) includes a rare making-of feature with interviews from Tomoya Nagase, Ai Kato, Satoshi Tsumabuki, Kenji Sakaguchi, Yosuke Kubozuka, and other principal cast members; TV promo spots; a non-credit opening sequence; and a special 9-screen Ikebukuro chapter map. This product is identical to the edition released on July 25, 2003.
