[【GG40/90】ゴールドベルク変奏曲アナログ・コレクション 2] 伝説的なデビュー盤の1年前――現在音として残されているグールド最初期のゴールドベルク全曲。グールドのデビュー録音となった1955年6月のゴールドベルク変奏曲。グールドはそれ以前にこの変奏曲を演奏会で何度か弾いていますが、録音として残されているのは当ディスクに収められた1954年6月、カナダ放送協会(CBC)のラジオ番組に出演した際の生放送の記録のみ。グールド自身が自らの試聴・記録用としてディスク録音させたもので、グールドの没後、彼の遺品の中から発見された。生放送用のマイクを前に、気負うことなく自らの解釈を披露するグールドの姿が克明に記録されている。ピアニストとしての演奏技術の高さ、30曲におよぶ各変奏の個性の彫琢の見事さ、それらを暴投と最後にダ・カーポされるアリアが包み込む全体の構成感のゆるぎなさなど、グールドの代名詞ともなったゴールドベルク変奏曲との親和性の高さが浮き彫りにされている。世界初LP化。
