One of Dylan's "lesser" albums from the period between the Sixties heyday and the Seventies resurgence of Blood on the Tracks. This album has a laid back country tinged feel. The songs owe something to his work with The Band, but they don't feature here. This album was remasrered in 2013 for the Complete Bob Dylan box set. I didn't buy that set (though it is good value) as I did not want duplication - I also already had the Mono box as my choice for the early albums. Fortunately Sony seem to be releasing them in batches by decade in Japan so you can pick up the titles individually in this gorgeous mini lp format, which is more substantial than the big box. Think the mono-box but with added protective sleeves for both the discs and the covers. I notice that the Japanese lyric booklet also has a list of recording sessions indicating musicians, songs and recording dates. This is quite comprehensive and covers material not included on the final album. You may be intrigued to see George Harrisons name in the credits. Two of his contributions plus other tracks from these unused sessions appear on The Bootleg Series volume 10: Another Self Portrait. That is one of the better volumes in the Bootleg series and is worth getting as a companion to this album. So a pricey option, but worth it for the lovely sound and beautiful packaging.
