Kimi no Hana ni Naru Blu-ray BoxJapanese TV SeriesWe are all 8loom!
Kimi no Hana ni naru is one of my favorite series, mostly because of Fumiya Takahashi's excellent acting as the character, Sagami Dan. All the young men playing the members of 8loom were well-cast (although most of them did not know how to act very well, except for Tsuna Keito) and the story was entertaining all the way through. The character of Nakamachi Asuka was wonderful, however, the actress who played her could have done more with that role. Even though 8loom is not a real boy band, the production value of the show and its music are of such high quality that everything feels authentic. LET'S 8LOOM!

"Segodon (TV Drama)" Original Soundtrack II (Music by Harumi Fuuki)Tatsuya Shimono (con), NHK Symphony Orchestra, Anna Sato, Sarah Alainn, Dai Hirai, Minami Kizuki,Yosuke Yamashita, et al.Magpie music (mix of styles)
Excellent TV drama soundtrack series from Harumi Fuuki continues. Vol 2 is even better, with a stronger mix of styles. More compositions inspired by traditional Japanese music too, which to my ignorant ears sounds fresh and exciting. With albums like this, where I haven't seen the show the music was written for, the score is left to conjure images and ideas on its own. I have no idea what Segodon is about, but I like to imagine it's a Butterfly Effect-type story about a foolish time traveler who finds himself back in various eras of Japan's history, meeting historical figures and mucking up the timeline, then coming back to present day Japan to see how history has been altered.

River, Nagarenaide yo (English Subtitles)Japanese MovieUeda best time travel writer
This Blu-ray while expensive is well worth it because it provides good English subtitles to go along with the incredible film on the disk. My only complaint is that the commentary seemed to play before the regular audio, which I'm not sure it that's normal but it shouldn't be the default.

"Rurouni Kenshin Kyoto Taika Hen / Densetsu no Saigo Hen (Movie)" PhotobookKikuchi OsamuA beautiful Rurouni Kenshin photobook
I am very impressed with the photobook. Even though it is technically in Japanese, only introduction is written in Japanese, the rest of the book are photos with no text. Some photos cover the whole spread, and some photos are smaller, strategically placed on the page. Photos are sharp, perfect quality. Majority of the pictures are straight from the two movies, sorted in chronological order, but there are a few photos behind the scenes and it's really fun seeing actors, mortal enemies in the movie, laughing together, covered in blankets. Book is softcover, the cover is matte, and the pages are high quality photopaper. Really beautiful.

"Godzilla Minus One (Godzilla-1.0)" (Movie) Original SoundtrackOriginal Soundtrack (Music by Naoki Sato)Godzilla Minus One CD Soundtrack!
Absolutely great film! It deserves an "Academy Award" (or equivalent) for Best Picture of the Year! My purchase of this CD soundtrack to this stunning film, re-making of Godzilla's origin after 70 Years of film history, is fantastic. "Godzilla-1.0" is an exceptionally filmed and complete story. Beautiful cinematography, an inspiring story of people, and wonderful music and SFX. I've loved Godzilla since I first saw the 1954 film when I was four year old, almost 59 years ago! I am in awe... I feel priveledged to still be around to enjoy this emotional and creative story, in such a thrilling artistic rendition! Domo Arigatogozaimasu CDJapan!

"Godzilla Minus One (Godzilla-1.0)" (Movie) Original SoundtrackOriginal Soundtrack (Music by Naoki Sato)Beautiful, Surreal and Reflective
Naoki Sato does a powerful and moving take on the King of the Monsters. Including a few traditional themes from Godzilla movie's past, Sato offers mostly surreal, atmospheric pieces that cause you to reflect on the horror or emotion taking place. - and this is reflected even in the track names. The Godzilla suites are excellent and pieces such as Hope, Last and Pray will have you thinking about the situations long after seeing this movie. In some ways, it is not easiest Godzilla soundtrack to listen to, but you will be emotionally moved. Recommended for the Godzilla fan or those who reflective or horrific, fantastical ambience.

Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken! (Eizoken ni wa Te wo Dasuna!) Standard EditionJapanese MovieA Fun Movie Regardless
I went into this not knowing anything about the source material. Sure, I watched clips on YouTube of this particular movie, but never watched the anime or manga it based off. I have to admit, the acting is amazing, the story I have no idea what is going on, but I still liked the movie regardless. I don't need to know something to find it entertaining. I just know that I liked the lighting, the acting in terms of oral and non-verbal communications.

River, Nagarenaide yo (English Subtitles)Japanese MovieWhat a treat!
Let me start by saying I'm a big Torigoe Yuki fan. He is adorkable and just all around amazing actor, so I got this movie because of him. I wasn't sure just what this movie was about (some sites said horror and others said comedy) so I went in to watch it nervously, and found myself completely in love with the whole cast! The storyline is simple, it's a small town, time seems to be looping every 2 minutes and the cast have to figure out what is the cause and return time to normal. There were some parts I thought were signs it was going to be a very dark movie, but it turned out for the best. No spoilers, but the ending was just so quirky and adorable - it made me love the movie even more. Another huge thing for me was SUBTITLES! I buy a lot of imported movies/series from Japan without any subs. I'm learning Japanese, but it is still such a relief to be able to understand the plot of the movie/series better than me piecing things together. This is quite the charming movie and I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to watch something interesting, different and just a sweet take on "time looping" or anything certain around time

Bara no Konrei (BRIDAL OF ROSE)Japanese Movie(MALICE MIZER)High Camp for the Goth Set
This movie is phenomenal! I've seen it probably a dozen times over the past 20 years and it never loses its shine. One of my favorite things about MM is that while they're serious (and seriously talented) musicians, they don't take themselves or their personas too seriously, and that really comes through here. The costumes and sets are quite lovely, and the fantastic Bara no Konrei album serves as the soundtrack. The translated English subtitles are comical at times, but that only adds to the melodramatic charm. Klaha stars as the film's Jonathan Harker stand-in opposite a scene-stealing Yu~ki's villainous Earl (not Count), both vying for the affections of Klaha's fiancee. Mana plays a nun with a mysterious connection to the Earl as well as a brooding vampire played by Ko:zi. The finer points of the plot aren't terribly clear; even after having seen it so many times, I still have tons of questions! The film is beautiful, bombastic, and campy in a way that's familiar to any fan of their live concerts. It feels like a natural progression of their journey, including the darker tone that emerged after the loss of Kami. While Bara no Konrei won't appeal to everyone, it's a must-see for fans of the band.

My Lucky Star Released in Japan EditionMovieExcellent TrueHD Transfer
This is my first time watching this movie from Japan Blu-ray, and it is an "wow" from me! It definitely must buy from me because this True HD transfer you won't find from any other companies such like EurekaVideo or you names its. Beside the subtitle burn-in on the sides, the overal such as colors were excellent and indeed filmic! True HD telecine definitely better than any Remastered transfer. You buy it, and you won't regret it.

"Godzilla Minus One (Godzilla-1.0)" (Movie) Original SoundtrackOriginal Soundtrack (Music by Naoki Sato)Sato does it again
Naoki Sato's score for Godzilla Minus One starkly shows the different approaches between Japan and Hollywood when it comes to film scoring. Compare this boldly minimalist, richly-textured, quietly brooding, drone-infused score with the hyper bombast of Tom Holkenborg's Godzilla Vs Kong. It's night and day. While I like some of Holkenborg's score, in a battle of Sato vs Holkenborg, Sato easily wins. Stomps on him, in fact. I say that because Holkenborg said in an interview that he thought Akira Ifukube's original Godzilla theme was laughable, and was surprised it was so highly regarded. Blasphemy! Tom, the original Godzilla theme, lovingly included here in a respectful homage, is iconic, memorable and enduring, which are three words no one will ever use to describe your very boring score for Godzilla Vs Kong. Show some respect for the giant whose shoulders you're standing on. Sato demonstrates that respect in his fascinating, multi-layered score for Godzilla Minus One.

"Mary and the Witch's Flower (Animated Feature)" Original SoundtrackOriginal Soundtrack (Music by Takatsugu Muramatsu)Total delight from start to finish
A superb soundtrack composed by Takatsugu Muramatsu (When Marnie Was There). Highly recommended if you like Joe Hisaishi's wonderful scores for Hayao Miyazaki's films, as this is very much in that tradition. Lovely melodies to transport you to another world.
