Yaku Sanju no Uso / 30 Lies or So (English Subtitles)

Kentaro Otani's "Yaku Sanju no Uso / 30 Lies or So (w/ English Subtitles)" is a wry romantic comedy reminiscent of Donald E. Westlake's "The Hot Rock."

A gang of swindlers pull off a successful job, but misplace their loot while riding together on their midnight getaway train (if you've ever been in Tokyo traffic, this is not as ridiculous as it sounds). Based on a play by Hideo Tsuchiya, the film retains the claustrophobic atmosphere of the stage piece. Starring Kippei Shiina ("Calmi cuori Appassionati [Between Calm and Passion]") as the gang leader with singer/actress Miki Nakatani ("The Hotel Venus") as his romantic interest, who also betrayed him on their last caper.

Don't you forget checking out Miki Nakatani's "Suna no Kajitsu" (music by Ryuichi Sakamoto) released in 1997. Satoshi Tsumabuki ("Dragon Head," "Sayonara Kuro") and Seiichi Tanabe ("Hush," "Gege") also star.

Comes with a bonus disc containing the making-of featurette, a promo clip to "Abuku" by Crazy Ken Band, and more.
