Hideaki Ito in "Umizaru"

"Umizaru / Sea Monkey (English Subtitles)" - Adapted from the hit manga series that made the Japanese Coast Guard cool to millions of Japanese youth, this film, from director Eiichiro Hasumi ("Bayside Shakedown"), follows a team of 14 recruits who enter a grueling, 50 day training course to become elite Savage and Rescue Divers.

Hideaki Ito ("The Princess Blade") stars as the cocksure recruit with pop idol Ai Kato as his love interest. Veteran actor Tatsuya Fuji (appearing in many of Takashi Miike's recent films) is the obligatory hard-nosed instructor, haunted by his past. Both Ito and Fuji, along with their fellow actors, spent weeks in intensive training to do their own stunts. This is the first Japanese film to be shot almost entirely underwater, with the full cooperation of the Coast Guard. The theme song is by Journey.
