R.I.P. Nagisa Oshima
One of the greatest Japanese filmmakers, Nagisa Oshima passed away on January 15, 2013 at 80. He was in the vanguard of the new wave of Japanese filmmakers who fought against the system and raised social issues such as capital punishment, discrimination, and homosexuality.
Oshima gained international attention with erotic and highly controversial films "In the Realm Of The Senses," "Empire Of Passion," and a war film "Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence" starring David Bowie, Takeshi Kitano, Ryuichi Sakamoto, and more. RIP.
