Miike's Sukiyaki Western Django

Sukiyaki Western Django

Eccentric Japanese director Takashi Miike looks back on the films of his childhood with the DVD release of his latest film "Sukiyaki Western Django"! An official entry into the 2007 Venice International Film Festival Competition, Miike's first all-English film "Django" has wooed audiences in Japan and abroad, and now it can be yours.

First there was Kurosawa's "Yojimbo," then there was Leone's "A Fistful of Dollars," now Miike's taking this story of a lone gunman profiting off a town split by rival gangs both back to the future with a fully Japanese take on the Western genre. Part homage and part send up, "Sukiyaki Western Django" pits the gunman against the classical Japanese Taira and Minamoto clans. But don't mistake this film for a period piece, once our gunman pulls a gattling gun out of a coffin you'll understand that "Django" is a work of samurai on gunman violence--this is Miike after all. Intriguingly, aside from the guest performance from Quentin Tarantino, the all-Japanese cast (offset by the likes of Hideaki Ito, Masanobu Ando, Kaori Momoi, Shun Oguri, and Miike favorite Renji Ishibashi) perform the film completely in English.

"Sukiyaki Western Django" is out now in two varieties: The standard edition of the film includes only the main feature, while the special collector's edition of the film includes two bonus discs with making-of footage, special effects info, weapons guide, and more plus 12-page booklet. Be sure to also check out the official soundtrack for the film including te theme song by Enka legend Saburo Kitajima as well!
