Sakuran w/English Subtitles

"Kamikaze Girls" star Anna Tsuchiya reprises her bad girl attitude in the brand new period piece "Sakuran"--out now with English subtitles!
Tsuchiya plays the role of a country girl-come-courtesan in Edo period Japan. Through lavish scenes of gilt and crimson, director Mika Ninagawa paints a tale of brothels, backroom courtesan brawls, and the ennui of the girl crowned "oiran."
Based on the manga of the same name, and written, produced, and directed by women, "Sakuran" is one of the most critically acclaimed films of 2007. Thanks belong not just to the amazing cast, but the techinically outstanding visuals and off-beat soundtrack courtesy of director Mika Ninagawa and soundtrack supervisor Ringo Shiina. "Sakuran" came out August 3, 2007 with English subtitles. Be sure to check out the Ringo Shiina theme song "Konoyo no Kagiri" as well!
