Takashi Miike's Yokai Daisenso

Yokai Daisenso

Pick up the Takashi Miike's latest film "Youkai Daisenso (Spirit War)"! A young, quiet boy is chosen to protect his village in what he thinks is a bogus ceremony. When strange, creatures start showing up at his door he is slowly sucked into an epic battle between good and evil spirits!

When I first saw this film in the theaters I was amazed at the balance achieved between the child-oriented nature of the film and Miike's characteristicly unique style of film making.. This must see film features spectacular primarily live action visual effects (think 80s era Jim Henson) and a spectacular cast ranging from Chiaki Kuriyama ("Kill Bill," "Battle Royale") to Naoto Takenaka ("Shall We Dance," "Waterboys").

The DVD release comes in two varieties, both featuring stunning DTS sound. The special edition version includes a bonus disc with bonus story, Japanese spirit encyclopedia, photo and movie gallery, interviews, documentaries, theatrical trailers, TV spots, and more. However, the 3DVD+UMD Collector's edition includes the above plus one more bonus disc with music videos, making of footage, and other content and a UMD with the main feature and game "Watashi wa Sekai no Yokai ni Kanshin Arimasu" for use with Japanese Playstation Portable systems.
