Yukio Mishima's Forbidden Masterpiece Yukoku

We are pleased to announce the rebirth of Yukio Mishima's legendary art film "Yukoku"! Made four years before the tragic death of the author, Yukoku boldly tells the tale of a disgraced man's somber journey towards his own ceremonial sacrifice for his country.

Beautifully filmed by director Masaki Domoto with the assisitance of Mishima himself (who also stars), this film sparked a number of rumors on its release. After the author's tragic death in 1970, rumor had it that Mishima's widow destroyed every copy of the film. This new DVD is based on a recently found copy unearthed at the author's old residence.

Presented in black and white with absolutely no dialog, this short film tells its story through action and subtitles. The DVD release we are presenting now features the original film, plus English and French translations (for subtitles only), replica message from Yukio Mishima, and stylized Japanese paper designed case.
