- Fired from Shigaraki's distinctive, coarse-grained, porous clay, this salt jar naturally absorbs any moisture that accumulates on the salt over time. It also maintains a consistent level of humidity inside the container, keeping the salt in a condition that's easy to use.
- To absorb moisture from the salt, this salt jar is not coated with the glassy glaze typically found on traditional pottery.
Since the interior is completely unglazed, it easily absorbs moisture and prevents salt from sticking.
The exterior features a chiseled finish and is coated with a thin layer of slip (a glaze with a composition similar to that of the clay) . This design features fine irregularities to increase the surface area, allowing moisture from the salt to spread throughout the entire jar (via capillary action), thereby promoting humidity regulation.
