neolog Versailles draws the curtains in dying anticipation over Ascedead Master 5

Weeks before the unfortunate passing of Jasmine You, the group released a series of mini albums and DVDs that not only pushed the envelope in terms of their work, style and technique, but it also revealed a deviously chilling and sexy dangerous side to the group. Their fourth release: ¡ÈAscendead Master¡É was released in four parts: One is the regular edition being discussed in this review, containing three tracks: ¡ÈAscendead Master¡É, GAKKAKO, and Descendant of The Rose. The other three, Jacket A, B, and C contains the titled song, additional bonus tracks ,and included is a DVD with Parts 1, 2, and 3 of the Mini film which the video for ¡ÈAscendead Master¡É previews.
The regular edition is very small, a taste really of everything Versailles has become for their die hard fans. But it is a taste we cannot live without. The titled track has KAMIJO once again tempting his audience, luring them in melodic tale of desire and alarm. Accompanying him are HIZAKI and TERU, hammering away at HIZAKI¡Çs beautiful compositions. The chorus unite with KAMIJO in an invitation to enjoy the thrills and the darkness. Once again we are blown away by the elegance of the piece and cannot help but go on the emotional journey laid out before us. But there is a dark side that KAMIJO is more than happy to weave for us. As a bonus, in this particular piece he actually gasps out, indicating a deep pleasure as he sings. It is also, however a sweet warning: There are shadows, danger, and oh yes, blood. Of all the pieces from Versailles, none are more obvious about their obsession and delight with vampirism than this one. This piece compels, with sexy results. KAMIJO even dons a pair of fangs in the song¡Çs music video and we relish in the deep soothing chords of his voice. It is thrilling to hear him sing his lullaby of blood. Joining him in his expression of this sinister desire are Yuki and dearly departed Jasmine You. Both work hard through out in the deeper tones, helping to paint the picture of a lonely alley, all pitch black and cold, disguised within the bright beauty of the song. The piece is additive as it is charming in compositor excellence.
The second piece, lyrics and composed by HIZAKI, is a collaboration of many genres wrapped up in Versailles¡Ç inspiration of the royal gothic subculture. This piece reveals the underlying idea of the Gothic culture being a collection of the royal Versailles of the wicked and beautiful, the cold hearted youth calded in leather and neon, and of the tearing souls of damned and lonely, looking for friendship in the dead woods surrounding the castle walls. There is a beautiful mixture of the classical, sounds like orchestra chords with the intense heavy metal rock. The group is almost famous for this, but once again the group bring something fresh and stunning in this piece. My favourite part in the whole song happens just after the second verse. There is a pause and you hear only a guitar and the bass going at it, playing a very funky tune that just brings to mind our current pop like culture. A reminder of how our world maintains a presence in the world they try to create around us. It is such a fun little bit that adds to the uniqueness of the piece and demonstrates Versailles determination to always try something different but staying true to who they are and what their music is all about.
The last song is an instrumental master piece composed by KAMIJO. Descendant of the Rose is a narrative. It is a combination of an emotional journey and a story without words. The piece is filled with moments of beautiful and soft subtle music, and louder moments are filled with excitement. Included is a beautiful chorus of strings, percussion, and woodwind instruments. One thing that is constant, particularly when it comes to my favourite type of music is combination of different types. Two of my favourite types just happen heavy mental and the very dramatic, classical music. What impresses me so much about Versailles is that they have come up with a way to combined the two and demonstrate that yes, these two separate genre can co-exist and are relevant. It not necessarily revolutionary to mix two music types type, but on their part I truly believe it is a grand innovation. The piece is heart wrenching, as it is daring and exciting. I have not watch the exclusive mini film but I am certain that this piece made an appearance in the movie.
It is a pity that these mini albums were the last the group completed with Jasmine, but it is clear that Jasmine You left behind an astounding legacy. He never sounded better than he did on this disc and could not have gone in a better way. The album itself is filled with the groups ongoing passion for there work,. And it is this passion that allows their dream to continue on with no bounds. The proof is in the upcoming Album ¡ÈJubilee¡É But, if you have not heard any of the ¡ÈAscendead Master¡É albums, you are doing Versailles, and yourself a grave injustice. Their very heart lies within this album, and the last of Jasmine beautiful wings. It also makes a awesome gift, for yourself or a fellow die-hard fan!

neolog Keep goin 4

I hope this band can keep going through without their bassist who is passed away this year..

versa is unique..

neolog worth it! 5

amazing songs!!
I do recommend buying this version if you're not a hardcore fan of Versailles. I'm a fan, but I bought this version because of the B-side. And I didn't have the money for the storyversions ^_^

neolog TERU!!! 5

The music is getting more faster & slightly different in tone. Its good stuff. Id recommend buying this instead of the 3 DVD editions. More music is always a plus over a 5min DVD~

neolog Graceful music from Versailles 5

This new single from Versailles is absolutely fabulous. The A-side track is genius and the B-side is very good too.

Another very good single from a band which goes on in the beauty of music.

neolog ASCENDEAD MASTER [Regular Edition] 5

When I first saw the PV preview on the OHP and then on CDJapan, I was honestly a little worried about this release. From the short segment of Ascendead Master that was played, it sounded much more commercial or mainstream compared to older releases. However, upon hearing the full release, I was extremely impressed!

Track 1: Ascendead Master

Despite the chorus having that catchy, almost mainstream sound, the rest of the song has a number of transitions that keep the style changing, much like other Versailles songs. The guitar solos are very intricate, as fans would hope from Hizaki and Teru, and Kamijo's singing still continues to improve. The song is around 6-7 minutes in length, but the fast pace and transitions make it feel much shorter. After listening to this song just once, I found myself humming it at work the next day.

Track 2: ·î²¼¹á

Gekkakou is much faster and harder than Ascendead Master. It was written and composed by Hizaki, so you might find it's a little similar to other songs he's worked on -- like Suzerain. What's especially fun about Gekkakou is that you can hear Kamijo continue to experiment with his vocals -- there's a few verses in Latin which he basically screams. Of the two songs on this single (that aren't instrumentals), I listen to this one more frequently.

Track 3: DESCENDANT OF THE ROSE [SOUNDTRACK]

This is a short instrumental that is featured in their short film (the one that is broken into three parts in the limited edition versions of the same single). It's very dramatic and fitting of Versailles, but if you're thinking it's going to be a track like PRINCE & PRINCESS's Silent Knight (focused on guitar and bass playing), then you'll be disappointed. Nevertheless, it's a fun little addition.

neolog ASCENDEAD MASTER! 5

First major debut single! Quiet good, but I still like their old music better.

great debut single 5

Great debut single of Versailles. I like the song "Ascendead Master", but I prefer the B-side "Gakkako" is gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very good 5

This is the only version that includes a song with lyrics besides ASCENDEAD MASTER. It is a very good song, very "power metal" style. The insturmental in here is great too. All instrumentals are sondtracks of the movie, all composed by Kamijo of course, very epic pieces. I only regret that they are too short. Also, I hope next instrumentals will be similar to SILENT NIGHT, which is truly a master piece!!
Also, this version is the only one that includes cards. And is cheap. So you don't have excuse to not buy it!!!...

Ascendead Master!! 5

I love Ascendead Master song... also the PV.
I'm not worried they always do great job, i could listen to them all day along.

Nice first Major single, I'm totaly NOT disssapoint in their works, can't wait to see what's next... ^_^

MINI-Album? Pre Release Comment

Your probably thinking this isn't a mini-album well... your right. There is a point though. Most people think versailles splitting them into four singles is Cheap when you think about it it actually isn't. If you get all four types it is like getting a mini-album. Cdjapan's description says the Cd only has one song, not true. The regular edition comes with "Ascendead Master", a b-side track, and an instrumental. You might think that's only three songs, that's no mini-album. The catch is each limited edition comes with a diferent version of the instrumental song. Usually, different versions of the song means regular version and voiceless version. in this case the song is already voiceless. If you get all four types of ascendead master with firstpress you get:

Songs
Ascended Master
Second track (sorry can't remember the title)
Descendant of the rose (instrumental)
Descendant of the rose(Limited editon A type)
Descendant of the rose(Limited editon B type)
Descendant of the rose(Limited editon C type)
Three DVD's for the full 15 minute long PV
Card's (firstpress only)
Three Posters (firstpress only)
4 Booklets w/ lyrics and photos
Codes to find out about a secret Versailles special event.

PLEASE BUY!
I'd appreciate it if someone explained the theme of the title track.

3 tracks on the CD Pre Release Comment

Yes! This CD has three tracks, the other two being "tsuki no kao" and "Descendant of the rose (instrumental)". But there are also different versions of the instrumental on the 3 DVD versions! I got this information from yesasia.com, but they just removed the info for the track listings!

Tracks Pre Release Comment

I think the cd has 3 tracks on it, not just ascendead master.........................................
