Schubert: Impromptus Op.90 & 142

Winning first prize at the 19th International Chopin Piano Competition, pianist Eric Lu is now attracting the greatest international attention. Following his competition victory, he releases an album of works by Schubert, a composer to whom he feels deeply attached. Included here are the two sets of Impromptus composed in 1827, the year before Schubert died at the age of 31. Emotions constantly sway, and the anxiety and solitude hidden in the depths of the heart emerge as subtle shadows. Eric Lu's Schubert performances stand out among contemporary pianists for their serene poetry and transparent sense of structure. The tension dwelling within soft tones, the natural flow of the shimmering tempo rubato, and the warmth that remains introspective without becoming cold all beautifully depict the glimmers of hope and beauty that shine within sorrow, making his Schubert truly unique.
