Finally this has come out on mini-lp sleeve cd and I couldn't wait to add this to my collection! I used to listen to the cassette many years ago when it was first released until the tape broke; as those who know cassettes don't last long especially if you play them as much as I did. This is not the best Van Halen album but it is certainly their last great album as future releases to me were simply not as good as what came before. The mlps is also well done for collectors who care about these things like I do. Definitely recommended.
I was so excited to see Van Halen's 5150 (and all of the Sammy Hagar era albums) get released in a Hi-Res audio format and in the coveted mini LP packaging, that I had to buy all 4 of these. This is the same 2023 remaster released by Warner Brothers, but it's in the MQA CD format. Unfortunately, if I had one criticism, this is only a mild upgrade. The sound quality is essentially Blu-ray audio quality as it's presented in 24 bit and 96 kHz. Unfortunately, it's not an upgrade like SACD or Dolby Atmos. However, the 24 bit format is noticeably better than the standard CD release and the mini LP packaging recreates the original Japanese vinyl release, right down to the obi strip. Please note, you will need a CD player that plays MQA CDs to play the Hi-Resolution layer. Overall, a very welcome addition to my Van Halen collection, especially since 5150 is my favorite Van Halen album of all-time.
