Customer Reviews
Good to see that this is (hopefuly) getting a re-release, as it's been fetching silly money on eBay. Might be able to complete my Rush SHM collection at last!
First of all, I have a very high end, 2 channel stereo and am NOT listening to this in surround sound! This review I give 3 stars for sound and 5 stars for the cardboard sleeves. Secondly, this is NOT a remaster. It is a reissue of the 1997 remaster put under SHM plastic! This review is used in comparing the sound of the MOFI 24kt Gold, 1997 20 bit remasters, and the SHM CD. And the winner is??? This is a big surprise to me, as I have about every rock SHM CD released--Led Zeppelin box set, Joe Walsh, Supertramp, etc., which all sound much better than their non-SHM CD counterparts. This RUSH and one other, I still have not compared the other RUSH SHMs yet, in NO WAY sound better than their U.S. 20 bit remastered CDs from 1997. The SHM CD sounds great and better than the MOFI, but not better than the 1997 20 bit. The 1997 CD does everything the SHM CD does but also gives better bass and midrange and a much better overall dynamic sound, where the SHM CD in comparison seems flat and compressed like, but not harsh or bright. It seems to me that they used a different version of the 1997 20 bit remaster than the American 1997 release. I do not see how it can be the same. I am keeping the entire catalogue of the SHM CDs as the cardboard sleeve replicas are, as all of them are, AWESOME! But when it comes to listening to the music for me, I will play the 1997 20 bit remasters.
