Description

In August 2026, to coincide with the 30th anniversary of Rafael Kubelik's death, Mahler recordings he left for Deutsche Grammophon will be released over three consecutive months. At the center of this series is the complete Mahler symphony cycle that Kubelik completed with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra between 1967 and 1971, a recording known as the first Mahler cycle by a German orchestra. The first release includes "Symphony No. 1, Titan," recorded in 1967, "Symphony No. 2, Resurrection," recorded in 1969, "Symphony No. 3," recorded in May 1967, and "Songs of a Wayfarer," recorded in November 1968 with soloist Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau. This first release traces the path of Kubelik, who continued to engage with Mahler from a time before Mahler's music was as widely accepted as it is today. Green-colored label coating. No lyrics translation booklet is included. Uses the DSD master produced in 2026 by Emil Berliner Studios in Germany from the original master. [Performers] Rafael Kubelik, conductor; Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. Recorded in Munich in May 1967, No. 3; October 1967, No. 1; November 1968, "Songs of a Wayfarer"; and February-March 1969, No. 2.
