Winner of the 2021 International Chopin Piano Competition, Bruce Liu signed an exclusive contract with Deutsche Grammophon in 2022 and has since established himself as one of the leading pianists of his generation through performances at the world's major concert halls and numerous recordings. This album, themed "Lunaris," was conceived and curated by Bruce Liu himself. Inspired by works associated with the moon and by the nighttime hours that he describes as "a time to reflect on myself," the album centers around Beethoven's "Moonlight" Sonata and works by Chopin, while weaving together music by Debussy, Bach, Mompou, Ligeti, Cage, and others across different eras and styles to create a unique musical world. "The word 'Lunaris' has a sense of familiarity while also carrying a mysterious resonance. Its root, 'luna,' evokes the moon, the night, and a soft, intimate light. It represents those moments when the outside world grows quiet, imagination and sensitivity become sharpened, and even the passage of time seems to change, allowing one's inner world to open." -- Bruce Liu.
