古楽界の巨人サヴァール指揮―17世紀の上演を再構築した創意あふれる舞台!! 1607年に初演されたオペラ草創期の傑作、モンテヴェルディの《オルフェオ》。バロック時代の上演を模した仕掛けと工夫に富んだプロダクションは、デフロがバルセロナのリセウ大劇場のために演出したもので、その後も世界各地で頻繁に上演される、非常に完成度の高い舞台。冒頭、指揮者サヴァールがモンテヴェルディ役として登場し、その姿が巨大な鏡に映し出されるなど、初演当時の舞台上演が有していた祝祭的華やかさを目の当たりにすることができる。スペイン・カタルーニャが生んだ古楽界の巨人サヴァールは、この歌劇を何度も上演しており、まさにゆるぎない安定感をもって情感豊かに神話の世界を描き出す。歌手も豪華布陣。バロックオペラ界随一の超絶技巧アルト歌手、サラ・ミンガルド、そして現在オルフェオ役として最も信頼を集めるフリオ・ザナージがタイトルロールを担当している。ちなみに日本でも人気のサヴァールの愛娘、歌姫アリアンナがオペラの大役に初挑戦したのもこの舞台である。
