CM、映画等で活躍、『茶の味』が世界でも高く評価され、2011年劇場公開『スマグラー』のヒットも記憶に新しい石井克人監督の実写最新作。本作のテーマはズバリ、"子供達へのプレゼント映画"。子供の頃に往年の海外TVドラマ『がんばれ! ベアーズ』に影響を受け映像にめざめたと語る石井監督。「子供達が主役で、子供達が観て昔の僕と同じように何かインスパイアされるような作品が作れたら面白いのでは!」と考え本作の製作に乗り出す。自身が主催したワークショップの卒業生でもある芳岡篤史、川口花乃子を共同脚本・監督に起用。主役の子供達も、有名無名を問わず、オーディションによって約200名の中より選出、石井監督ならではのキャラクター豊かな子役達が揃う。脇を固める大人の俳優陣も、石井作品常連組に加え、日本映画界でも注目を浴びる満島ひかり他、『スマグラー』で石井監督と出会い、監督とその作品に惚れ込んだキャスト達が次々に名乗りを上げ、参加。スタッフも石井組の精鋭が集結、千葉県成田市で合宿スタイルでオールロケを敢行。石井監督が最も信頼するキャスト・スタッフと共に全国の子供達に楽しんで欲しいという想いを込め作られた映画である。そんな監督、キャスト、スタッフの想いを叶えるべく2013年全国劇場公開時には史上初となる小学生以下は完全0円興行を実施。子供たちに今、家族や友だちと一緒に本当に観て欲しい映画、それが『ハロー! 純一』。
