Schubert: Symphony No. 8 (9) "The Great"

[Machine Translation] Remastered reissue of the TAHRA label's classic recording. This is the only "Great" recording of Hritschai, and for that reason alone, it is a must-have for all music lovers. Of course, the performance is superb. The "Great" tends to be somewhat redundant, but in Flitchai's hands, this is not the case at all. While drawing a magnificent world with a big footstep, he tightens the music with a strong and dominant sound, and the construction is filled with a sense of tension. In the first movement, the trombone sings the third theme, and the tempo is slowed down to a solemn effect. The final movement is also very exciting, with a raging crescendo and other powerful passages. It may be said that this was one of Flitchai's best performances before he became ill. The fervor does not come from a freewheeling interpretation, but from a precise grasp of what the piece is about, reminding us again what a great work "Great" is. TAHRAレーベルの名盤をリマスター復刻。フリッチャイの「グレート」録音はこれが唯一のものであり、それだけでも愛好家マスト・アイテムと言える貴重な1枚です。もちろん演奏も超充実。ややもすると冗長になってしまいがちな「グレート」ですがフリッチャイの手にかかれば全くそんなことはありません。大きな足取りで雄大な世界を描きながらも、覇気のある力強い響きで音楽を引き締め、緊張感に満ちた構築を聴かせます。絶妙な緩急による生き生きとしたドライヴ感も素晴らしく、第1楽章ではトロンボーンが歌う第3主題とも取れる箇所でぐっとテンポを落とし、荘重な効果を上げます。終楽章の推進力にあふれた白熱ぶりも凄まじく、怒涛のクレッシェンドなど強烈。病にかかる前のフリッチャイが一番のっているときの演奏のひとつと言えるかも知れません。その熱気は決して自由奔放な解釈から来るものではなく、すべて曲の求めるところを的確に捉えたものであり、「グレート」がかくも偉大な作品であることを再認識させてくれます。解説書にはフリッチャイが自ら語る小自伝を収録。15ページに及ぶ読み応えのある内容で、保存盤としたくなる1枚です。日本語帯・解説付。
