Opening with the thunderous sound of Miles Davis's muted trumpet, this is a masterpiece that shines brilliantly in the history of jazz. This album is also noteworthy as a recording that captures the moment when the talents of an illustrious lineup, including the then nearly unknown John Coltrane and Red Garland, blossomed. DISC 1 begins with "Round Midnight", composed by Thelonious Monk, followed by Charlie Parker's "Ah-Leu-Cha", Cole Porter's "All of You", and Tadd Dameron's "Tadd's Delight", presenting the repertoire that Miles performed with his band at the time. The album was produced by George Avakian. DISC 2 includes live recordings from the Newport Jazz Festival on July 17, 1955 (VOICE OF AMERICA) #1, and a live performance in Pasadena on February 18, 1956. 2CD / SA-CD hybrid / 7-inch cardboard sleeve.
