Rie Fu brings something old and something new to the table with her 3rd studio album, aptly titled "Tobira Album." Her songs retain her familiar soothing vocals and melodic guitar. At the same time, she ventures slightly into new musical territory with tracks such as the surreal "dreams be", regal serenade "Tsukiakari" (ending theme to "Darker than Black"), and relaxed "Anata ga Koko ni Iru Riyu." Overall, there is not one unlikeable song on this album. "Mellow" would be a perfect descriptor of the CD's mood. However, "dreams be," "Tsukiakari," and the other 3 pre-release singles are the standout tracks here; it would have been a pleasant surprise if the new songs were all just as great.

This is the first release I've bought from Rie fu, though I've been listening to her music for a year already. When I heard the single "5000 Miles", I knew I just had to get this album and it certainly was worth it. Her voice is bright and clear and she switches from Japanese to English so effortlessly, she sounds very natural and there's always a distinctive style in her songs. I loved her compositions and whenever I listen to this album, it makes me more cheerful and brightens up the day. I find the overall mood very relaxed and easy to enjoy, greatly recommended to anyone who enjoys good, heartful music.
