1974 Penn State University in SHM-CD [SHM-CD] [Cardboard Sleeve]

From one of the few multitrack-recorded live sources from King Crimson's highly popular Fripp/Wetton/Bruford/Cross lineup period, the June 29, 1974 performance at Pennsylvania State University is now available as a standalone CD. This is the CD version of the item released this spring for Record Store Day as a limited-edition 2LP vinyl set, which sold out immediately. Unlike the vinyl edition, which was a high-priced collector's item from the start, this SHM-CD cardboard-sleeve edition is priced at JPY 3,500 including tax. Following "Starless and Bible Black", an album that emphasized live improvisation and made bold use of live recordings, this historically important source was recorded for "Red" using the Record Plant mobile unit under the direction of engineer George Chkiantz. The overwhelming performance, captured just two days before the lineup's final show and sounding almost like the work of a ferocious god, appears with striking gekiga-style comic illustration artwork. As a bonus track, this release adds the DGM-restored version of "21st Century Schizoid Man" from the well-known audience-recorded bootleg source of the July 1 performance at Central Park, New York, the final show by this lineup.
