バロック・オペラの代表的な作曲家ペルゴレージの代表作でオペラ・ブッファの名作。10/25発売の「ずるい田舎女」と同じく三幕のオペラ・セリア(尊大な囚人)のインテルメッツォとして作曲されたが、これが好評となり独立して上演されるようになった。バロック・オペラの原型を示す作品としても評価が高く、19世紀以降も盛んに上演された。本公演は、シギスヴァリト・クイケン率いるラ・フティバンドが通常オペラのスタイルで行ったもので、家庭的な封じられた空間で演じられ、より大きな単一性を示している。めったに公演されなかった名作。
