A SAMBA SONG [Cardboard Sleeve (mini LP)]

The pinnacle of ultimate non-Brazilian bossa rare groove has finally started as the first-ever worldwide official reissue project! This is the second installment! In the 1970s, Penera, yearning for distant Brazil from the other side of the globe and drawing on the emotion and musical sensibility acquired in the Philippines, which was under the influence of American music, composed three "miraculous" albums, all of original songs, that skillfully unite the essence of Brazilian music, bossa nova, samba, and fusion. The entire trajectory that Bong Penera followed is fully recreated here!! This treasure was unearthed by scenes such as rare groove in the 1990s and influenced even artists of the early-2000s club jazz and Brazilian scenes, yet the originals were held only by a handful of hardcore collectors, and now its full picture is finally revealed!! Released in 1976, "A SAMBA SONG" is the landmark first album by Bong Penera. It is truly the starting point, where deep affection for faraway Brazilian music and the artist's own creativity burst forth. The opening "A Samba Song" is the signature song sung by Maria Dulce Soares da Silva. Expressing the young Penera's own language and sensibility within the culture of the Philippines, it is truly the symbol of this album. From "Beat Contemplation", marked by light keyboards and refined rhythms, to "A Tear For Sunrise", where a gentle melody unfolds, "Wordless", which conveys the charm of instrumentals, and the vibrant "Samba Madrugada", the album condenses a rich musicality that moves freely between jazz, bossa nova, and samba. It is a musical legacy of passion and innovation that showed new possibilities to the Philippine music scene of the 1970s and will make you want to drop the needle again and again. Comes in a cardboard sleeve jacket.
