DVD-BOX第2弾。 悩み、挫折し、葛藤しながらも、次々と現れる難題に果敢に挑んでゆく姿は21世紀の今を生きるわれわれの心を激しく揺さぶる。唐沢寿明が原作の山崎豊子作品に挑むのはフジテレビ開局45周年記念ドラマとして放送され、高視聴率を記録した、あの『白い巨塔』(2003年10月～2004年3月フジテレビ系全国ネット)以来6年ぶり! 唐沢寿明を取巻く豪華キャスト陣は、妻に和久井映見。娘・直子役に多部未華子、同期の柳葉敏郎、その他小雪、原田芳雄、天海祐希、竹野内豊、岸部一徳、遠藤憲一、伊東四朗、段田安則、古田新太、阿部サダヲ等豪華出演陣! 第二次大戦中、大本営の参謀として作戦立案にあたっていた壹岐正 (唐沢寿明)は、終戦後、満州でソ連軍に拘束される。戦犯としてソ連の軍事裁判にかけられた壹岐は、強制労働25年の刑を宣告されると、一度送られたら二度と生きて帰ることはできないといわれたシベリア極北の流刑地ラゾに送られてしまう。11年もの長きに渡って過酷な強制労働に耐え抜いた壹岐は、昭和31年に帰国する。それからの2年間、壹岐は、強制労働によってむしばまれた体の回復と、シベリアから一緒に帰国した部下たちの就職の世話に専念した。その間は、妻の佳子 (和久井映見)が大阪府庁民生課で働きながら家計を支えていた。そんなある日、壹岐のもとに、士官学校時代からの親友で、防衛庁の空将補である川又伊佐雄 (柳葉敏郎)がやってくる。川又は、この国を守るために一緒に働いてほしい、と壹岐を防衛庁に誘った。しかし壹岐は、自らが関わった作戦により、多くの兵士や民間人を死なせてしまった責任から、川又の誘いを断った。壹岐は、部下たちの就職が片付いたのを機に、かねてから誘われていた近畿商事への就職を決意する。近畿商事は繊維を中心に扱う商社だが、経済の発展を見越して、重工業化・国際化を推進しようとしていた。社長の大門一三 (原田芳雄)に会った壹岐は、軍人時代のコネや肩書きを一切利用しないことを条件に、近畿商事に入社し、社長室嘱託として繊維部で働き始めるが・・・。 第十一話～最終話。 ブックレット封入。特典ディスク付き。
