Stereo Sound's "Audio Masterpiece Collection" features classic masterpieces and legendary recordings released in a format, digitally remastered via flat transfer from the original analog master tapes in their countries of origin. Following the six titles in Phase 1-which are currently on sale (one of which is already sold out) -Phase 2 is finally set to launch. The Phase 2 lineup consists of a total of 8 titles, with two titles scheduled for release every month.

Kicking off Phase 2 is the "Mercury" label's *Symphonie fantastique*
The first of the two titles in Phase 2 is Berlioz's *Symphonie fantastique*, recorded in 1959 by French conductor Paul Paray with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. This "Mercury" recording-which author Mamoru Shima described in our publication *The Ultimate Guide to 106 Classic Recordings* as the finest recording of the *Symphonie fantastique*-is being revived via a flat transfer from the original analog master tape, currently in the best condition in Universal Music's collection.

Single-layer SACD + CD format
As with the first edition, this release features the same performance on both a single-layer SACD and a CD. However, to optimize each disc's format, the SACD has been directly converted to DSD (the SACD recording format) from the analog master, and the CD has been directly converted to PCM (the CD recording format) from the analog master, allowing you to fully enjoy the unique characteristics and potential of each format.

Digital Transfer Work at Classic Sound Ltd UK
The digitalization from analog tape was handled by Jonathan Stokes and Neil Hutchinson, engineers at Classic Sound Ltd UK who previously worked at Decca. At the request of Stereo Sound, these two veteran engineers performed the digitization using a "flat transfer" method-without the use of compressors or other processing-directly from the original analog master tapes. As a result, while hiss and dropouts present on the master tapes remain, the sound of those tapes-which were previously accessible only to a select few-has been faithfully captured on two types of digital discs (SACD and CD) .
