Product Introduction
[DISC2 is the first SACD release! This is the seventh digital recording to be released on SACD! New commentary included!

After recording Mozart's Piano Concertos Nos. 20, 21, 25, and 27 with Abbado, Goulda and the geniuses Arnoncourt & RCO recorded in September 1983 the highest peak of these concertos, Nos. 23 and 26, which are miraculous performances full of inspiration and flexibility that the word "maturity" alone is not enough. The superb performances based on mutual trust between the two musicians are one of the greatest recordings of all time, and should be listened to for a long time to come. This latest reissue also includes the once-in-a-lifetime "Concerto for Two Pianos" recorded with Chick Corea in June of the same year. The two masterpieces have been digitally mastered in their native countries and newly converted to SACD for this release. New commentary included.

For Goulda, Mozart was as special as Beethoven and Bach, and there are several recordings of his piano concertos. After recording Mozart's concertos No. 21 and No. 27 in the Concert Hall in stereo, and the four concertos with Abbado on DG, the first digital recording of Mozart's concertos followed. In addition to the aforementioned pieces, he also performed No. 14 and No. 24, and these recordings are still available. In 1986, the orchestra played No. 21 and No. 27 live with the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, which was also released as an independent recording. While the combination with Arnoncourt, with whom this TELDEC recording was their first joint recording, attracted much attention, there were concerns at first about the gap between Arnoncourt's approach to ancient music and Gourda's musicality, but in the actual performance, there was surprising coordination, and the musical base of the two was built on a mutual empathy. The actual performance was a surprisingly coordinated and sympathetically constructed musical base that was sublimated to such a degree that listeners were surprised and gave high marks to this new addition to the disc. Whether this was due to Gourda's practical experience or Arnoncourt's ability to handle the music is a matter of conjecture, but there is no doubt that this disc was a milestone in Arnoncourt's subsequent expansion into a wide range of fields and in the establishment of his reputation, and not just for this disc. I am sure that this is one of the milestones in Arnoncourt's later forays into a wide range of fields and in establishing his reputation.

Tower Records (2025/10/24)
The three-way collaboration with Chick Corea on DISC 2 was initially greeted with surprise. Although Goulda's interest and foray into Jazz had already been recognized through amadeo recordings, this was their first session recording together, and playing Mozart was an unknown experience, so listeners of non-classical genres must have been very interested. The details of their first collaboration at the "Munich Piano Summer" the previous year, which led to this recording the following year, are detailed in the commentary by Mr. Takaki Yazawa, but it was truly a once-in-a-lifetime encounter. At the time of its release, the fact that Arnoncourt conducted and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, which has a long tradition, was a big gap between the two recordings, and it is still fresh in our memories that it became a topic of conversation even more. The recording also raised questions about what formality and performance are. We hope that the reissue as a high-quality reissue will allow the listener to feel the rich atmosphere of the time even more than on the previous recording, based on the reconstructed balance.

The SACD layer aims to improve the resolution with extended high frequency and soft nuance, while the CD layer aims to create a realistic tone that is pushed out with a coherent and solid sound, The CD layer is designed to have a cohesive and solid sound with a realistic tone. The commentary is newly written by Mr. Takaki Yazawa. The seventh edition of the Definition Series DIGITAL era will feature three titles.

[Concept of the reissue of sound sources] .
In this reissue of the early digital sound sources, the sound field has been improved, the sound separation has been improved, and the resolution has been enhanced beyond the individual sound quality differences. The latest mastering has been applied not only to the SACD layer but also to the CD layer, so you can confirm the effect of the latest mastering. Although the difference in sound quality may not be as dramatic as that of the most successful reissues of the most recent analog recordings, we are confident that the sound quality will be as good as that of the previous reissues, and we have decided to proceed with this project in earnest. The name of the new series is "Definition Series DIGITAL era", which focuses on the digital recording period of about 20 years from the early 1980s, which is one of the peak periods in the history of vinyl recordings. As in the past, we have conducted comparisons with previously released recordings as much as possible, and have tried to optimize the mastering process by respecting the original masters in order to maximize the music.
