Maria Esther Guzman, praised by composer Rodrigo as "Segovia's successor" and hailed as "the queen of the guitar world" for her perfect technique and high musicality. Her career is brilliant: at age 11 she won a competition hosted by Spain's national broadcaster, won the 1986 Andres Segovia International Competition, won 13 major international guitar competitions around the world, and in 2012 was awarded the Andres Segovia Medal by the Segovia Foundation. This program, spanning classical, modern, and contemporary, weaves diverse works like a single thread, and their contrast beautifully delights the listener. Among the 7 pieces arranged by Maria Esther herself, especially intriguing is the Albeniz. Originally a piano work, the piece is known for its harmonic and contrapuntal richness, its density of sound, and its rhythmic complexity, and arranging and performing it for guitar involves considerable difficulty. It can be said to be one of the highlights of this work.

楽曲の対比が興味深い ギターで聴きたい名品たち。作曲家ロドリーゴにして「セゴビアの後継者」といわしめ、その完璧なテクニックと高い音楽性で、「ギター界の女王」と称えられるマリア・エステル・グスマン。その経歴は華々しく、11歳でスペイン国営放送局主催コンクール優勝、1986年アンドレス・セゴビア国際コンクール優勝を初め、世界の主要13の国際ギターコンクールにて優勝、2012年にはセゴビア財団より、アンドレス・セゴビア賞のメダルを授与されている。古典、近代、現代に渡る今回のプログラムは、多彩な楽曲が1本の糸の様に紡がれ、その対比が美しく聴き手を楽しませる。マリア・エステル自身による編曲7曲中、特に興味深いのはアルベニス。オリジナルがピアノ作品である同曲は、和声的・対位法的な豊かさ、音の密度、そしてリズムの複雑さで知られ、ギターへの編曲と演奏はかなりの困難を伴う。本作の聴き所の一つといえる。
