In the early sixties Lee Morgan had a hit with his composition The Sidewinder - a groovy tune with and catchy theme. Rather than playing it as done by Lee Morgan, The Modern Jazz Quintet plays it with a different, but very effective groove. The arrangment is one of the best made since the original version. The remaining CD consists of jazz standards and compositions by the quintet's pianist, David Matthews - hardbop at it's best. This CD will be enjoyed by hardbop fans.
