Description
Soft Machine, the founding band of Canterbury music, has created an advanced sound that incorporates various elements of rock music such as psychedelic jazz and progressive rock. The new album created by a new lineup becomes the maiden voyage of the reborn Soft Machine, while showing respect for the band's history. After the release of the album "Other Doors" in 2023, drummer John Marshall suddenly passed away. The band welcomed Asaf Sirkis, a top drummer from the British jazz scene, and continued activities with a new lineup. After several concerts, the band started recording a new work with this lineup. The completed album is simply titled "Thirteen", as it is their 13th album. With John Etheridge's technical and solid guitar playing and Theo Travis's emotional and lyrical horn playing at the forefront, the sound woven by the vital rhythm section of Fred Baker and Asaf Sirkis evokes Soft Machine albums such as "Bundles" and "Softs", which are popular among their catalog. In addition, as a tribute, the guitar sound of the late band founder Daevid Allen is used. The Japanese edition only is UHQCD. It comes in an original LP reproduced cardboard sleeve, includes two additional bonus tracks, and will be released ahead of the rest of the world.
