2005年のオペラ界で最も注目された歴史的な演奏会! 小澤、ドミンゴをはじめ一流の音楽家が大集合!! 世界の歌劇場の頂点に君臨して来た"オーストリアの誇り"ウィーン国立歌劇場が、1945年3月12日に連合軍の爆撃で破壊された。そして、1955年11月5日の再開からちょうど50年後の2005年11月5日に開かれたガラ・コンサートを収録。 1955年の再開公演の最初の演目は、当時の音楽監督ベーム指揮による「フィデリオ」。今回は、現音楽監督の小澤征爾(70歳)が幕開けとトリでこの歌劇の抜粋を指揮し、伝統を継ぐポストにいることを再認識させた。選曲は、1955年の再開時に全曲が演奏された歌劇からの抜粋。小澤征爾以外では、メータ指揮の「ドン・ジョヴァンニ」、ティーレマンの「ばらの騎士」と「ニュルンベルクのマイスタージンガー」、ガッティの「アイーダ」、ウェルザー=メストの「影のない女」。
