日本コロムビアのDENONレーベルで2018年4月からスタートした、イタリア出身の若き天才指揮者アンドレア・バッティストーニと東京フィルハーモニー交響楽団によるレコーディング・プロジェクト「BEYOND THE STANDARD」。クラシック王道の名曲中の名曲と、日本人作曲家による傑作をカップリングし、時代と国を越え、新たなスタンダードとして打ち出すシリーズの第3弾。これまでも演奏会に取り上げてきたベートーヴェン: 交響曲第5番「運命」。セッション録音だからこそ緻密に構築されていくであろう超スタンダードナンバー「運命」は、今シリーズにとって重要な曲となると思われる。カップリングには、吉松隆の「サイバーバード協奏曲」を取り上げ、ソリストに、上野耕平を起用する。上野にとって初となるコンチェルトの録音となり、初共演のバッティストーニと繰り広げられるセッションに期待が高まる。ピアノに上野の盟友: 山中惇史、そしてJAZZ界で人気の石若駿を招き、トリオを形成する。
