[Machine Translation] Fujiwara Michiyama, a brilliant pioneer in the new world of shakuhachi, and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra's young concertmaster, Volkhard Steide, have been performing together since 2008, when the quartet visited Japan and hit it off. 尺八の新しい世界を切り拓く俊英、藤原道山と、ウィーン・フィルの若きコンサートマスター、フォルクハルト・シュトイデ率いるシュトイデ弦楽四重奏団。2008年、シュトイデ弦楽四重奏団の来日時に共演し、意気投合した彼らは、その後もコンサートでの共演を重ねてきた。度重なる共演で培ってきた関係を一つの作品へと結実させるべく、道山がウィーンに飛んで実現させたのが、今回のレコーディングである。今作のコンセプトは、「日本とヨーロッパそれぞれにおける、古今の名曲をピックアップして収録する」というもの。編曲には大島ミチルを起用。音楽的価値観も理論もまったく異にして生まれてきた東西の音楽。それらを、一つのアルバム作品のなかで付き合わせ、更にそのサウンドを和楽器(尺八)と弦楽四重奏、という新たな邂逅によるアンサンブルで紡いでいくことにより、双方の差異、あるいはその中に潜むメンタル的な共通項が非常に興味深い形であぶりだされてくる。また、今回のアルバムのために藤原道山と大島ミチルが、尺八+弦楽四重奏のためのオリジナル曲を2曲ずつ書き下ろし、提供している。
