小田和正がホストを務め、長年にわたり良質な音楽を届けてきたTBSの音楽番組『クリスマスの約束』。『クリスマスの約束2005 ～大好きな君に～』は、2005年6月3日に静岡エコパアリーナからスタートした小田和正の全国ツアー「KAZUMASA ODA TOUR 2005 "大好きな君に"」の一環として、11月29日に行われたさいたまスーパーアリーナ公演の模様を収録したスペシャル番組である。冒頭のMCで、「この番組のおかげで、これまで自分に関心を持っていなかった人たちが音楽を聴いてくれるようになりました。今年は"大好きな君に"というタイトルで全国ツアーを行いましたが、どうしても都合がつかなかった方々のために、『クリスマスの約束』でこのライブをお届けすることになりました。今夜は『クリスマスの約束2005 ～大好きな君に～』です」と語り、視聴者への想いを伝えた。本作は当時テレビ放送のみで公開されており、今回が初の映像商品化となる。テレビではオンエアされなかった楽曲が多数収録されており、見逃せない内容となっている。
