Watch this film and you'll love it! Probably my favourite picture by Kitano, it vividly depicts the story of two school bullies who soon find themselves facing the difficulties of growing up. Poetic and violent at the same time. Wonderful!

北野武監督最新作『監督・ばんざい!』DVD発売記念!! 10作品をプライスダウン。 勝手気ままに生きているふたりは、ボクシングをきっかけに、初めて自分の意思で道を選び、生き生きと駆け抜けて行く!! ――18歳の二人は、いつもつるんでいた。気分がのれば学校に行き問題を起こす二人は、担任(森本レオ)の目に"落ちこぼれ"としか映らない。そんなある日、カツアゲた高校生の助っ人にKOされたマサル(金子賢)は、ボクシングに目覚め、シンジ(安藤政信)も成りゆきでジムに入門した。ある夜、ヤクザに絡まれた二人は、若頭(石橋凌)に助けられ、マサルはその迫力に感動してしまう。高校生活も終わり、シンジはボクシング界の逸材に成長していた。だが、ジムにはマサルの姿はなかった・・・。カンヌ国際映画祭'96監督週間正式出品作品。北野監督は、今日の日本の社会の中に、過去のエピソードを実現させながら、二人の高校生とそれをとりまく人々の姿を通して、彼自身の現代という時代への解釈を描き出す。そして、この作品の中で、全ての観客に対して、我々が「自由」と呼んでいるものの意味を問いかける。
