チェコスロヴァキアで高名な音楽指導者の息子として生まれたモイゼス。出世作となった「交響曲第1番」をはじめ、12曲ある交響曲の他、協奏曲や室内楽曲、映画、ラジオ、劇音楽と多岐に渡るジャンルの作品を残した。彼の作品は即興的なインスピレーションに溢れていながらも、根底にはヨーロッパ音楽の伝統と、現代的な傾向が取り入れられていることで知られている。1942年に完成した「交響曲第3番」は1933年の「クラリネット五重奏曲」を発展させた作品。第1楽章から第2楽章にかけて、冒頭の劇的なモティーフが次々と展開していく様子は、シベリウスの交響曲を思わせる壮大さを持っている。第3楽章は民族的な要素が含まれたスケルツォ、第4楽章を経て、終楽章で全体を回想する。1947年に書かれた「交響曲第4番は」10年後に改訂、こちらは最後を勝利が飾るマーラー風の交響曲。 [演奏] ラディスラフ・スロヴァーク (指揮)、スロヴァキア放送交響楽団
