This is an excellent heart warming movie. Suitable for all ages. It's about a young boy traumatized by certain events, who tries to reconnect with the world through a robot his father has built. Father son relationship is very important in this story. Also the friendship with his classmate Jun. I don' want to say too much about the story. The robot is cgi but the special effects are just adequate to tell the story. This one really gets to me. In a good way of course. Worth the yen.

This is definitely not a film just for childred. For instance, I myself am 19 years old, and I loved this little film. It's funny, touching and very well made. I was especially impressed by the special effects. Usually I hate cgi, but in Hinokio all the special effects were done so well I couldn't tell whether it really was cgi or not. Also, the casting was great. Too many films have been ruined by irritating child actors, in Hinokio all the young actors were very good.
This was a very good movie. It was sad, touching, interesting, and funny all the way through. Although many would call it more of a 'chick-flick', this is one of those movies that right from the beginning you are glued to the screen and you can't wait to see what happens next. The actors are very good and make it more realistic, and make the robot seem like an ordianry everyday person. The plot line isn't too complicated or thick, but simplicity seems to make this story even better.
